"Get back comes with patience"
On a quiet summer evening near East 97th and Escanaba Avenue, the air was shattered by the sound of rapid gunfire. By the time the chaos subsided, two people lay dead, and one was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The deadly shooting, which took place just after dusk, is believed to be part of an escalating cycle of gang retaliation, stemming from the recent loss of a prominent member within the community.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with shots ringing out from a passing vehicle. Those who were present barely had time to react before the gunfire tore through the evening stillness, leaving a trail of devastation behind. The victims, all known in the neighbourhood, were gathered outside a local corner store when the attack unfolded.
Authorities suspect the shooting was a direct response to a previous incident involving the slain member, whose death had sent shockwaves through the community just weeks before.
Tensions have been high ever since, with residents fearing the inevitable retaliation that has now tragically claimed more lives.

Despite the swift response from law enforcement, no arrests have been made, and the shooters remain at large. Detectives are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led to the attack, but in a neighbourhood where silence often prevails, they are finding it difficult to gather key information.
